Important notice: USB File Transfer feature is discontinued due to Apple's demand, to avoid violation of Apple's rules. The last version of GoodReader that supports USB File Transfer is v.2.3. This page is being kept for v.2.2 and v.2.3 users only.
If you're looking for a way to transfer files from your computer to your iPhone / iPod touch via USB cable and then read them on your iPhone/iPod, you have come to the right place.
Make sure that you have:
- purchased and installed GoodReader app on your iPhone / iPod touch (use iTunes or App Store app for this)
- downloaded free companion app called GoodReaderUSB on your computer (see instructions below). You will use this app to drag-and-drop your files to it with a mouse, and the files will be automatically transferred to your iPhone / iPod touch.
It's that simple!
Please read more detailed guidelines below.
Please contact our customer support service if you have any questions about this technique.
See instructions for:
Windows-family operating systems
Mac OS X 10.4 / 10.5 / 10.6
Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP
Go to www.iphone-explorer.com/apps/goodreader.html and find GoodReaderUSB downloading section:
GoodReaderUSB is a product of our joint development project with awesome myPod Apps company (check out their other applications, they're cool).
Download GoodReaderUSB for Windows application.
Unpack downloaded package.
Start GoodReaderUSB.

Connect your iPhone / iPod touch to your computer via USB-cable.
Drag your files and folders with a mouse to GoodReaderUSB window.
Wait for file transfer to finish.
Exit GoodReaderUSB.
Disconnect USB-cable.
Start GoodReader on your iPhone / iPod touch, go to its root folder, if you're not there already.
Note USB Folders link in GoodReader. Open this link. You should see GoodReaderUSB folder there. Open it. You should see your files now.
Enjoy your files.
If files being transferred are for short-term usage, it's fine to view them where they are. However, if those files are for long-term usage, we strongly suggest to move those files to My Documents storage of GoodReader, which is much safer place in terms of some other software accidentally deleting it.
