Make absolutely sure that you have installed Service Pack 3 or later.
On Windows XP computer open the wireless network selection dialog. To do this either click on a wireless network connection icon on system tray:

...or open the Start menu, select Control Panel, select Network Connections, find a connection that corresponds to your WiFi card, right-click it with a mouse and select View Available Wireless Networks:

Find your network in a list, click it, and then click the Connect button:

Enter your network's password and click Connect. It is very important to ensure that you're entering the password correctly, because sometimes, if the password is incorrect, it may look like you're connected to a network, but no actual file transfer will happen.

Wait while Windows registers within the network, and the Connected label appears against your network name in the list:

On your Mac computer click on WiFi antenna logo in menu bar (at the top right corner of the screen) and select your network from the drop-down menu:

(if you don't see the WiFi antenna logo in menu bar, you may want to run the System Preferences app, open the Network tab, select your wireless adapter there and find an option to show your WiFi adapter status in menu bar)
Enter your network's password and click OK. It is very important to ensure that you're entering the password correctly, because sometimes, if the password is incorrect, it may look like you're connected to a network, but no actual file transfer will happen.
